The Rose City Wreckers

(Recreation Program)

The Rose City Rollers are proud to invite you to join the Rose City Wreckers, a recreation program designed to further the competitive sport of flat track roller derby. The program is open to all women aged 18 and older interested in playing derby at any level. Wreckers are afforded the same benefits as all other league members- including regular skating time, participation in events, and opportunities to pitch in- without the level of commitment and time demanded by bouting league teams.

Wreckers Mission Statement

The Rose City Rollers Wreckers are a diverse group of skaters empowering women to discover their own athletic potential. We challenge ourselves and our derby teammates to improve our skills in a collaborative and fun environment. As a division of Rose City Rollers (RCR), we support the league’s mission, gender inclusivity statement and actively promote roller derby in the community.

Our values:

  • Community
  • Challenge
  • Athleticism
  • Empowerment
  • Fun

Who Should Join
Those 18 and older who…

  • Are interested in the competitive sport of flat track roller derby
  • Are looking for a fun way to work out (seriously, way more fun than the gym and cheaper!)
  • Want training from experienced coaches (seasoned RCRs and RCR referees)
  • Want to hone their derby skills for the next Rockets tryouts (tryouts are generally held every 6 months)

What Wreckers do:

  • Learn and hone derby skills through exercises and drills coached by the best of RCR. During practice we use many of the same drills that are used at team practices including footwork, muscle strength, weaving, whipping, hitting, pack awareness, and jamming
  • Earn scrimmaging privileges through our Wreckers Skill level system (see below) and play derby in a safe environment
  • Support RCR and our community
  • Make friends and build a strong supportive group of skaters

Think you’re ready to hit the track in a pack? Join our next orientation and get info about getting your skills and gear checked off to get your wheels on the floor! If you believe your skills meet or exceed those being taught as part of Derby 101 (see above) you MUST attend the next Wreckers Skills & Drills practice held immediately following Orientation for assessment. NO EXCEPTIONS. If you are not able to attend that day please wait for another Orientation.

Need more basic derby and skating skills? We’ve got your back too! Wreckers offers a supportive and focused basic skills class to get you up to speed: Derby 101. This roughly 3 month class series, held at the RCR Hangar, currently on Sunday mornings, is taught by current Rose City Rollers players skilled in teaching newer skaters. In this smaller class format we provide targeted instruction and constructive feedback, building skills to get you rolling with full Wreckers practices. Having fun is a key component of Wreckers – in fact, it’s one of our core values. Having good basic derby skating skills will help make practice safer and more fun for all. Come to our next Orientation and get more information and start dates on our next Derby 101 session.

Interested in derby, but the financial commitment is prohibitive? Learn about our scholarship programs here!  RCR is committed to making roller derby as accessible as possible. Don’t hesitate to apply for a skater scholarship!

When are practices held?
We have practices on Fridays, Saturdays and Mondays. Derby 101 is held on Sundays. More information regarding times will be provided at Orientation.
