Really? That wasn't a well-played game? Because even when On'Da Sligh was the only jammer on the track, she didn't own AoA. There were walls that had her stopped dead in her tracks and prevented any 30-point jams.

So we lost. Boo hoo. It would be unfair to say that it wasn't a SUPER exciting game, though. And for a team of skaters (some of whom are pretty new) who have not been skating together for a terribly long time to take on a WFTDA ranked A team and keep it so close... pretty freakin good.

Axles, you did a great job and ARE great, period. That was a super fun game, no one got out there and sh!t the bed, and everyone has something to be proud of. Besides, I don't care who wins or loses, an 11-point game is infinately better than a 200-point game, and we're all here for better derby, really.

F-in A, AoA! Don't mind the haters!

I am a "hater"? Or maybe just a "DARNED Super Fan". I do challenge the notion that AoA got beat. Based on my notes: Chasing blockers that were about to be twenty feet out, effectively bridging for the other team. Bedpost blocking patterns, allowing the opposition to be grouped for more effective blocking even when you owned the pack numbers. Racing when you owned the powerjam. All are things AoA is better than. It qualifies as a dumb loss. If you want to have a frank discussion about the bout post Jam 14 of the second half, say around the 9:13 mark on, I am a willing participant.

First, Jellypig, I appreciate you. As a sport, we need super fans. We need YOU! I appreciate your sports-mindedness and your ability to analyze the game and give feedback. The fact that you think about AoA and have an opinion means you give a hoot. I love it.

But we don't know each other very well.

What I hope you come to appreciate about ME is that I'm a cheerleader. I'm not being kept around for my skills on the track, my big contribution to derby is POSITIVITY!!! So it doesn't matter if it's my best friend, or you, or Hitler using words like "disgust" or "better than that" when talking about my team- my immediate reaction will be to respond defensively on behalf of these ladies and tell them that they've done a great job. That's MY role.

So just because I say that AoA is good, doesn't mean I think that you or your opinion is bad or invalid. Yes, I said "hater". I say a lot of things. So do you. Let's get together sometime and mutually say things about someone else.

Isn't a bout lost by 11 points, even if the home team loses, better to watch than a bout won by 100 points?
Which is what AoA did all summer... won by huge points spreads.

Maybe we are "better than that", maybe we aren't.
I like that we had a blast playing and put on a good bout. So good that Super Fans are analyzing it whether it be in our favor or not.
Nice!
And be proud to be outta your mind and outta control

What's "Derby Deeds"?

It's a usually-worthwhile podcast that takes too long to listen to.

They have a hotline. JeLLyPiG and Speed Bump occasionally drunk-dial it.

George, I am so surprised you are not already listening to this podcast!

Check out their website: http://derbydeeds.com/ and you can download it to your itunes. The shows are about an hour.

I think its pretty great and they have an archive of all their shows if, say for example, you are going on a derby roadtrip...
