Most important question of the week: Who is traveling to Denver for WFTDA Champs Nov 11-13?

I heard the tournament is being hosted outside of Denver in some surburb-ish area.

Hey Denver-bound peeps: Hotel costs too much to swallow? Try staying with a host family! Not only are they cheaper, but you might get some new friends out of the deal! I have had friends do this and it's totally legit and an awesome way to save some cash!

Da*mn the expense, I'm gonna go for it.

Got everything else figured out except for the room. Unfortunately the one motel option walking distance to the venue (Aloft Hotel) is fully booked up.

Any derby fans out there that would consider splitting a room with a curly-haired super fan? (maybe at the host motel The Westin, 3 miles from the venue, if rooms still available - $109 group rate)

I would love to make it! I really (I mean REALLY) shouldn't spend the money, but how can I pass up the chance to see WOJ kill it at champs?? It all depends on how some things work out in the next few days, and how cheap I can get a flight, lodging, etc. Any tips on that front are appreciated!

on airbnb I am seeing everything from single rooms for $40 to entire floors for $100 a night. People leave reviews too so you know if you are getting a good room.

I'll be trying to figure it out that's for sure! I am in between jobs (as usual these days) so I have to wait to closer to the date. Will be attempting to use airlines miles but am interesting in sharing a room.

The DoubleTree listed on the event's website claims that they have a shuttle to/from the venue, so I booked a room there. They still had plentry of rooms left when I booked mine. They only had $99 rooms left, though. I can't believe how cheap the airline tickets are. Great deals on air travel!

Who hasnt purchased a ticket yet? I bought one on a screaming good deal a few months ago (I believe it was $37 for the 3-day pass). And I'm 80% sure that I am working the event too.

Anyone interested in buying my ticket?

Looks like Aloft hotel (right next to the venue) is totally booked. Maybe some teams pre-booked their rooms with the expectation that they would be competing at Champs, so I'm crossing my fingers that a few rooms open up. Heard one of the after parties will probably be at Aloft = convenient for drinking!

FYI - Aloft if not totally booked...but maybe only king rooms left. Despite their current website statement that Friday is sold out, I just booked our stay including Friday in a King room. So, maybe some of those pre-books are dropping out. Also, think about emailing Amanda Faith <Amanda.Faith@aloftbroomfielddenver.com> to get on a wait list.

Unknown to me until last night my boyfriend bought us tickets to denver and VIP tickets to Champs! So now I need to find a room and car rental!

If someone is planning on driving or wants to take responsibility for transporting the remaining regionals signs in my possession, to take to the championships, let me know... they are taking up space in my car and I would love to hand them off to someone to be used there

On the positive side, when I stop at different locations where people can see in my car, I get to discuss the WOJ win and enlighten more people

We're staying at the Aloft - even though the website says "sold out" when I called can said "WFTDA" they said "Denver Roller Dolls" and I said "sure" and they said "109 a night" and I said "sure" and they said "Can I have your last name?" and I said "Sure" and they said....

Outbound - Thursday - Frontier
Return - Monday afternoon.

Now we need a dogsitter (again!)

I am also still trying to secure credentials to shoot - I will always defer to Skippy as senior shooter when we hear "1 photog per league"...

We are also flying out on Thursday night and back on Monday morning (stupid work!). I am renting a car and we are staying at the Aloft. I am willing to take two/possibly three people from the airport and back to the airport but you must be willing to work with out time frame. It is a 35 min drive

I'm using my hard-earned frequent flyer miles to come cheer WoJ to victory! I'm staying with my brother who lives in Boulder. I'd love to donate some cash/gas for a ride from the airport as far as Broomfield if the times work out. I'd also be interested in a ride back to the airport on Monday morning - need to be there by 10am. Let me know if you want to work something out.

I get in on United #789 at 9:21am on the 11th.
I leave on United #369 at 11:31am on the 14th.

I am planning on going. Orbitz has tickets for $225, but I have not looked into hotel info yet...

Ok, I think I am going, pending getting time off work (shouldn't be a problem, but have to request it). I think I might just fly in Friday morning to save the cost of an extra night. I would like to rent a car and maybe share it (and the cost) with someone (partial share an option if someone not flying the same time as me wants to share it Fri-Sun). I am considering couch surfing (couchsurfing.org) but would love to have someone do it with me. I haven't tried it before, but I have looked over the site and it seems pretty good - you can read "reviews" from people who have stayed with someone before, etc. Also it's free. And there would probably be access to a kitchen for cheaper meals. It would be great to stay at a hotel with everyone and all that, but if I'm going to do this, I gotta do it cheap. There are people in Broomfield where the venue is, and plenty more a bit farther away if none close by work out. Anyone wanna go on the cheap with me?

So it looks like I am going to get credentials for Championships (The policy is 1 shooter per league and I will always defer to Skippy out of respect for the time he has given to this league and because he's a damn talented shooter).

If anyone is driving and you might have some room for gear, ping me. I have some things I just would rather not run through TSA or an airport.

O-K. Minor hotel snafu for Champs in Denver next weekend. eep!

Is anyone staying at the Aloft Hotel ... and can I crash in your room Thursday night? I'm rooming for the weekend with Bash/Effy et al ... but I didn't realize they were arriving on Friday morning instead of Thurs night. :oops:

Anybody else coming or going on these flights or around these times? I'm looking to ride share - the Denver airport is hella far from anywhere. My brother's picking me up at 10am on the 11th, if anybody needs a ride (maybe in exchange for some gas $).

Travel to and from the airport.

Rumor has it that a cab ride from the airport is $70. I just got a standard rental car from Alamo for $45 with a coupon code. Please let me know if anyone would like the email with codes please let me know and I will forward it to you. You maybe able to get the same deal at Alamo.com but I am not sure.

FYI ladies (and gents) going to Broomfield from the Denver Airport!

Not all the rental car places will tell you about the E470 Toll Road that goes around the north side of Denver, and Google Maps seems to direct people onto the E470 to get to Broomfield... which is a bad idea! Instead, take Peña Blvd south to 70 to 270/36.

I was told it was faster and easier to take the toll road but you must have the toll system for your rental car, the toll road does not take money.

here's info i found about the toll road - looks like you can drive the toll road and it will simply send the rental company the bill for your toll:

If you do not sign up with the rental company it is $25 per charge extra, if you do it is $2 extra up to $6 a rental at Alamo. Of course I can't find the information about the $25 on Alamo's site right now (read it yesterday) but I would suggest asking about it.
