Re: WFTDA New Rules time-line statement

Which means Deranged will be conveniently cleared to skate for Oly against Minnesota and Texas the last weekend of August, when Oly actually gets to skate against teams that will actually challenge them.

On second thought, Naptown might be a bit of a battle.

Re: Portland Area

Oh, and check out Voodoo Doughnuts when you're out here. That alone should be enough to convince you that you need to live here. Even though I don't live there and I visit on occasion (The BB in Sept :) ), the poutine at Potato Champion in the food cart pod in Hawthorne makes a very strong case as ...

I just went to the site a moment ago and it looks like they've got a free stream going. Maybe $20 is for an HD version with archive access? :?

Re: Anybody have any commentary on Oly v. Rocky?

The actual video footage didn't work at all. They stopped trying at half time and went to audio. First half was pretty much all text casting. It was a real pain in the sash. Be double thankful you were at the hangar!! I will say that all sorts of stella italiana hype was flung across the web. Other...

Re: RCR and The Oregonian

A few years ago, some of us fans and skaters wrote polite positive letters to one of the local Seattle papers asking that Rat City be covered in the sports section. The sports editor replied to us that because Derby skaters did not use their real names as they do in professional sports, Roller Derby...

Re: RCR v RMRG

I think the high block that left eagles mouth bloody was unseen by any referee. No penalty was issued. Be sure that the WOJ bench saw clearly. I don't believe amanda jamitinya intentionally hit eagle in the face nor was aware that she did. She looked as satisfied as any blocker that has a good jamm...

Re: The head/face shot

Don't mean to stir up the pot, but it's been gnawing at me a bit: Watching the video of the RM v. WOJ on DNN, I didn't see the actual hit, it appeared to be out of view of the camera, but did the unpenalized hit to Scald look like it was done on purpose or accidental? If it looked like it was done d...

Re: Flat Track Stats 2.0

The math used to calculate the stats is quite amazing and admirable, however, I wish they would not base their rankings on derby performance going back a bunch of years. When you consider the vast changes that occur in team personnel, team performance and the ruleset over a few years, FTS is imo ina...

I think when it comes to utilizing the Key, Rat City wants to milk the gate as much as possible. Rat's never done any video boutcasts from the Key since they've started up there.

Decided to order a couple VIP tix. I was surprised to discover that the seating is ASSIGNED. (jam...I'm used to GA so was planning on getting there early to snag front row.) I got seats in row 7, which ain't too bad I suppose. But the moral of the story is: Sooner we reserve tix, the better seats w...

Bonnie's knack is not so much speed, but the ability to sharply cut back against the grain of blocker pursuit and slip blocks like Houdini. Is she that slow  ?

Re: Rat City Breaks 7000 at Season Opener

From watching past bouts at the Expo Center and Oaks Park in person and the internet, I've noticed the bagpipes, the unicorn, Elvis, the GNR circle--it just didn't seem as heavy. I obviously don't go to as many Rose bouts, so I'm certainly missing stuff. Howabout having your announcer run around the...

Did not go to the 2011 opening Key bout, however, I've been to quite a few of them, and I can tell you they really get into the showbiz aspect. I did see your opening bout at Portland Memorial online as well as others. The coliseum looks like a good place to watch derby. Don't interpret the straight...

Re: Rat City Breaks 7000 at Season Opener

They've spent a few $$$ on promotion---ads on metro buses and posters on building walls. Also, TV time on the lifestyle shows, pieces and photos in the newspaper lifestyle section, and they put in a lot of showbiz in the bouts presumably to placate the novices and the non-sports fans. At least you g...

Re: 2011 Travel Team

Look at the bright side of life: Even though a bunch of skaters have retired to go strictly all-star, you've got at least three opportunities in addition to the regionals to see them bout in portland. Plus, the new skaters give you an opportunity in the home team bouts to scout out which ones have t...

Re: Home Team Rosters

You may want to roster 14 for a bout, but keep 18 in the stable so to speak---injuries, the revelation that derby is not the skater's thing anymore, and life crises may eat into a roster over the course of a season, so keep some extra gals around, unless you can simply resort to getting skaters out ...

If it's proven that this head ref taught skaters dangerous illegal tactics as well as how to hide dangerous objects in wrist guards, then this person IMO should be permanently banned from WFTDA bout competition.

Congrats on getting the coliseum to bout in. I could have sworn that I read somewhere that the league attempted to get into it but it was too expensive to rent. Looks like a good place for tourney play.

I'm listening to the Derby Deeds podcast right now, and I wholeheartedly disagree with the statement that Rat City has a deeper, stronger jammer rotation. Rat's got Painyo, Carmen Getsome, Juliet Bravo, Wile E, and maybe Kamikaze Kim? The first three are probably their best jammers and I saw both P...

Re: Sacto bracket (2010 Western Regionals)

There's a proposal to base tournament entry on national performance rather than region next year. It's a pretty solid proposal. I like it. But due to the confidentially clause I've signed I can't post it here. The gist is that instead of regionals and a national tournament there would be divisions ...
