Boy, have we got some fun events planned for you in August. This month, join us at the Oaks Park Hangar for Derby Daze, an entire weekend of derby fun including skate clinics, scrimmages and two bouts. Our all-star team, the Wheels of Justice, is also hosting the Hometown Throwdown at the hangar, where they'll play their rivals, near and far - Bay Area Derby Girls, Rat City Rollers, and Gotham Girls Roller Derby. Skate-o-thon

Saturday, July 31 1:30-3pm Oaks Park Hangar

Help the Wheels of Justice on their way to the WFTDA Championship!

The Wheels of Justice have trained hard and skated harder to move up in rankings to 6th in the country! Now is your opportunity to help your hometown team keep the momentum rolling all the way to The Women's Flat Track Derby Association's Western Region Playoffs in Sacramento, then on to Chicago in November for the WFTDA 2010 Championship Tournament! The skate-o-thon will cover a nine-mile loop from Oaks Park, down the Springwater Corridor, across the Steel Bridge, through the Tom McCall Waterfront Park, across the Hawthorne Bridge and then back to Oaks. Fresh Meat Tryouts

Thursday, August 12 6:15-8:30pm at Oaks Park Hangar

Wanna play for the Rose City Rollers? Show us what you got! This is your opportunity to join our competitive training program. Details about our tryout process and all you need to know about becoming a Rose City Roller derby skater is on our Tryouts FAQ page. Be at the hangar early enough to get your paperwork filled out and your gear on!

Hometown Throwdown

Friday-Sunday, August 13-15th at Oaks Park Hangar

Three days jam packed with bouts featuring FOUR of the finest all-star roller derby teams from around the country - the Bay Area Derby Girls, New York's Gotham Girls Roller Derby, Seattle's Rat City Rollergirls, and of course, Portland's own Wheels of Justice! Tickets and details here.

  • Friday, August 13th, 7 pm (doors open at 6 pm): Bay Area Derby Girls vs. Gotham Girls Roller Derby, followed by Wheels of Justice vs. Rat City Rollergirls at 8:30ish (after party at Bossanova)
  • Saturday, August 14th, 6pm (doors open at 5 pm): Bay Area Derby Girls vs. Rat City Rollergirls, followed by Wheels of Justice vs. Gotham Girls Roller Derby at 7:30ish - you won't wanna miss this one! (after party at Crush)
  • Sunday, August 15th, 1pm (doors open at 12 noon): Gotham Girls Roller Derby vs. Rat City Rollergirls, followed by Wheels of Justice vs. Bay Area Derby Girls at 2:30ish (after party at Rocco's Pizza)

Tickets for Friday & Saturday are $16.00. Sunday tickets are $12.00

Derby Daze Double Header

Saturday, August 28 6pm at Oaks Park Hangar

Check out the double header that's part of RCR's jam packed Derby Daze weekend! Atomic City of Tri-Cities, WA will be taking on Lava City of Bend, OR followed by RCR's Axles of Annihilation vs. Derby Revolution of Bakersfield, CA. Tickets are $16 General Admission and $22 for a Rockstar guaranteed seat, get tickets here.

Community Involvement

 

Wheels Wash Wheels

Saturday, August 1st 11am-5pm at Voodoo Too

Come get your wheels washed by your favorite all-star team, the Wheels of Justice, at VooDoo Too located at 1501 NE Davis St. Help the Wheels raise money for travel expenses on their journey to the WFTDA Western Region Playoffs and WFTDA Championship tournaments this fall. Suggested minimum $5 donation. There will also be a silent auction featuring items from some of your favorite skaters!

Derby Daze 2010

Friday-Sunday, August 27-29th at Oaks Park Hangar

Bigger and Better than last year! We've planned this summer's jam-packed derby weekend retreat right here at the Oaks Park Hangar. Don't miss all the action:

  • Opening night Carb Load and Jam Skate at historic Oaks Park rink
  • Boot camp-style training by Rose City's all-star travel team, Wheels of Justice
  • Open scrimmaging with members of Wheels
  • Referee on- and off-skates meetings
  • A marketing lunch focused on your desired topics
  • Photographers classes focusing on how to shoot the action led by some of the top talent in the NW!
  • Amazing Saturday night double-header bouts and after party

The Hero's Ball

Saturday, September 11 8pm-12am at the Jupiter hotel

Get ready for the Rose City Rollers' biggest bash of the year and dress up as a super hero! Remember this special date in style - a portion of the proceeds will go to The Portland's Firefighters efforts to erect a memorial for fallen fire fighters. Check back here for more information.

The Rose City Rollers need you! Rose City is currently looking for volunteers to keep our fast-paced, skater owned and operated 501c3 non-profit organization running smoothly. Not only will you be earning the adoration of 100+ derby girls, but you'll be building valuable resume skills and will receive a tax deduction for your time.
