Weekend Recap: Derby Daze 2011

Derby Daze was a weekend full of roller derby deliciousness which I mostly wasn’t able to attend. (Something about dropping $200+ on my skates a couple of weeks ago.)  From what I understand from Facebook, Bonnie Thunders and OMG WTF have a fantastic toe stop turnaround drill that may completely change your life.

On Friday night, we let the boys use the hangar for their game against the Lane County Concussion.  The LCC had something to prove after a recent controversial loss to Portland, but were unable to overcome the home team in a back-and-forth bout.  PMRD won 142-120.

Can someone explain this, please? Photo by Sharkey.

AoA beat Treasure Valley on their own turf at the Spudtown Knockdown last year, and this year was no different.

My husband said that AoA put on a blocking clinic.  Isn’t he nice?  Some of the skaters had literally put on some clinics earlier that day, so maybe it carried over.

Squid Vicious played in her first game with Axles and Supa Sixpack guest skated for the first time.

At the halftime raffle, Dancing Scott won a framed picture of AoA, and Bonnie Thunders won the RCR skateboard.  It was not even rigged.  Thanks to Timothy Murray for the picture for the raffle and for printing copies for all the skaters in it.  What a nice surprise.

Heidi Go Seek won MVP for Axles and JillDozer won for Treasure Valley.

Thank you, Treasure Valley, for making the trip, and to Axles for letting me play.  Last but not least, thank you to Sharkey for rushing these pictures out so ya’ll could get your recap in a timely manner.  That guy’s the best!

Other winners of the night include the Heartless Heathers, who seem to have won the afterparty.  Mercy’s version of All That Jazz brought down the house, and, yeah: when I left at 10:30, there were lots of Heathers left, all clad in their neon.  Special recognition goes to the Treasure Valley girl who rocked the afterparty in a sports bra and underpants.  Who needs clothes?

All the newsy items:
Twat Rocket has stepped down from the Heathers.

JK Rolling is now a captain of the Wheels of Justice, in addition to Cadillac and Scratcher.  Havana Good Time and Honey Hellfire are captains of the Axles of Annihilation.

White Flight and Chynadoll Assassin are captaining the Heartless Heathers, and the new GNR cappies are Bella Massacre and Juvie Hall.

Next up:
Bridgetown Brawl.   Preceded by a poster-making party.  You will want to attend both.
