Firecrotch and Domesticated Violence both stepped down from their teams shortly before the draft due to injury.
In other skater news, you may have noticed that Smack Ya Sideways was not on the travel team roster, and wasn’t picked up by a team in tonight’s draft. As such, she’s no longer on a skating roster for the Rose City Rollers.

I hesitate to use the word “retired” with any of these skaters. So I won’t. I’ll just say that they’ll be missed on the track.

Since I have you here, let’s chat Closing Scramble. We’re ending the season the same way we started it, with each home team playing two 30-minute bouts. The championship lineup will be determined not just from the outcomes of this weekend (as in the “semi-finals” of the past), but from the overall season win-loss record.
The High Rollers have clinched first place and will definitely play for the home season championship. The Betties and Heathers will duke it out for chance to play the High Rollers for the championship, and there’s a chance it could all come down to the last game on Saturday night. Buy your tickets now.

GNR IN ’12!! Way to go, Squid!! You make us south folk all proud!!!
Couldn’t this information about the roster moves be written differently? It seems negative and condescended towards the skaters that stepped down. Just a thought…
I’m sorry it came across that way for you. I meant it to be respectful but brief.
Oh. Big news. Thanks for the report.
Apparently this is all mis information. Evidently the scramble didn’t have any significance at all and the seeding for champs was pre determined. This is increadibly mis leading to fans. Here it is reported that second is up for grabs, yet after the heartless heathers beat the betties, the betties are playing for first? I feel duped. I feel I should get a refund. I bought something other than what I was sold.
There was nothing pre-determined, but if you know how to keep track of standings it had all been spelled out in the season’s play.
The Betties beat the Heathers 1.5 times this season. The Heathers beat the Betties .5 times.
Both of them beat GnR. Both of them lost to the High Rollers, but the Heathers beat the HR .5 times.
The Betties also have a (much) higher average point differential- when they win, they win by a lot.
So when it comes to numbers, the Betties have out-performed the Heathers this season (as a whole) and deserve a shot at championships despite the Heathers having a good weekend at the closing scramble.
I guess if you wanna try to argue that it was pre-determined you could say that the Heathers losing to the Betties in the opening scramble and regular season full bout determined it… and you’d be right except that the Betties could have lost to the GnR which would have put the Heathers ahead.
If the Betties had lost both scramble games and the Heathers won both scrambles, our records would be tied. I apologize, because I was under the wrong impression that the tiebreaker would have been point differential. When I wrote this, I sincerely thought second was still up for grabs.
Here’s the official word:
Rose City Rollers 2011 rankings were determined as follows:
Determining Intra-League Rank
Rank is determined by (in order of influence)
Win-Loss record (win percentage)
Head-to-head performance
Average Point Differential (APD)
In the case of non-standard bout format, such as the Rose City Rollers Opening Tournament and the Closing Scramble, wins and losses count as half games.
The 2011 RCR Championship bout will be played by the teams ranked 1st and 2nd after the Closing Scramble.
Therefore, the Rose City Rollers Season 6 Championships will be played between the High Rollers (Win/Loss record of 4.5-0.5) and the Breakneck Betties (3-2). The Heartless Heathers (2.5-2.5) and Guns N Rollers (0-5) will open the Championship event with a battle for third place.
Here is more complex explanations to satisfy questions I have been receiving post Closing Scramble.
- Season rankings were changed entering 2011 to 1) W-L% 2) H-H performance 3) Average Point Differential in response to skater and committee requests post 2010 season. Previously the rankings were determined via 1) W-L record 2) APD 3) H-H.
- There was no semi-finals for the 2011 RCR season. The Closing Scramble does not directly determine who will play for the Season 6 RCR Championships (other than the Closing Scramble’s impact on season rankings).
- The Opening Tournament and the Closing Scramble bouts each counted as 1/2 game since they were only 1 period long.

Thanks for clarifying, Frisky! I know you would never knowingly mislead us loyal fans.
To Duped: that sucks that you felt misled. I can tell you there was definitely some confusion going into the closing scrambles (some people thought they didn’t matter at all, some people thought the standings for the Championships were already set, and some people had way crazier notions that don’t really need to be said here). Since you might be new to the derby world, please know that you can always ask what the hell is going on and most people will be happy to explain or help clear things up.
