Last weekend in Rose City…we welcomed the Rat City Rollers from Seattle with a Fresh Meat scrimmage, the Rose City/Rat City home teams battled at Memorial Coliseum, and then the travel teams scrimmaged each other. A bout sandwich with delicious scrimmage bread to soak up the juices.
Or something less gross.
Fresh Meat Concrete Scrimmage
There was no skating floor at the hangar, but our Fresh Meat didn’t let that stop them from playing with Rat City Fresh Meat skaters on Saturday morning. Our freshies got there early to sweep and mark a track on the concrete floor.
All of the information I have about this is based on this RCR forum thread, and the first-hand knowledge that our freshies are totally exceptional. Way to do us proud, ladies! Gold stars.
Now, prepare yourselves because we’re doing more endurance on Thursday.
Sibling Rivalry 4×4
At least 5100 tickets sold for the Rat City/Rose City rematches at the Memorial Coliseum on Saturday, and it was another split decision, with two wins and two losses for each league.
Derby Liberation Front 51, Break Neck Betties 65
Recent history lesson: The week before we went up to play Rat City in Seattle was not the best for the Break Neck Betties. DV broke her leg, and then Monroe and Rhea weren’t able to come. We came out flat, and DLF skated circles around us. Not that much fun for the Betties.
This past week was another tough one, as we lost Monroe and Hella to retirement, but this time we came out to play our game and it went according to plan. Our walls were tight, we got our jammers out, and we took advantage of power jams. Result? Betties victory, even with 13 skaters available out of our 20-person roster.
I’m really proud of us.
(Amanda is supposed to be impartial. I never claimed to be.)
Throttle Rockets 84, Guns n Rollers 40
GNR had a tough time with those Throttle Rockets, but fared a little better than the last matchup with the addition of guest skaters Smack ya Sideways and Blood Clottia.
Grave Danger 88, Heartless Heathers 23
The last time these teams clashed, it ended up with a Heathers overtime victory. This time, the Heathers missed two key players, as White Flight was in Denver and Twat Rocket was injured Saturday morning. (No horseplay before the bout, ladies!) The home team had trouble putting points on the board in this match up.
Sockit Wenches 29, High Rollers 60
The Sockit Wenches have had injury problems and retirements of their own, so a couple of guest skaters joined them for a game with the High Rollers. The 2010 Rose City champions showed that they’re still the team to beat.
HRMF were missing a key player, too, in Minstrel Psycho, who hurt her knee frolicking in a grassy field before the game. (I KNOW it was a nice day, everyone, but come on!) The High Rollers rolled to a victory that I remember yelling at very loudly.
Easter Morning Travel Team Scrimmage
Sunday morning, the travel team was up bright and veryearly to re-lay the track at the hangar for pickup scrimmages with the Rat City travel team. Somehow, they found time to find some Easter eggs and eat hot cross buns, too.
First up were Wheels of Justice vs. the Rat City All-Stars. Being at least the third time these teams have skated against each other within a few months, the WOJ coaches mixed things up to iron out strategies and let everyone a little jamming practice. That was the first time I have seen Smack jam in a while. WOJ ended up with about 30 more points than Rat.
Next up were the Axles of Annihilation vs. the Rain of Terror. Or, maybe Axles Extra, with some members of WOJ and a few travel team waitlist skaters mixed in, as several members of AoA were injured or otherwise occupied on Easter morning. Go figure, right? Stupid family and loved ones, always getting in the way of derby. AoA ended up winning by triple digits.

Next weekend the Rosebuds and dudes will be playing in Seattle. Maybe if you’re lucky I can scout out some information on that. Imagine me cocking my head to the side and winking.
Then travel team heads out of town the first weekend in May to play an epic weekend vs. Rocky Mountain and the Denver Roller Dolls.
Awesome.

It was an incredibly fun night. I was especially glowing after the Betties victory. Great way to show off Derby to a large gaggle of first-timers.
Is Mia Feral skating for HR anymore? I remember thinking she was a rookie to watch….
great bout(s) to all!!
Yes! She’s on the High Rollers and Axles of Annihilation. She didn’t skate in the last two (?) HR bouts due to injury.
