Weekend Recap: April 1-2

Remember last weekend?  Admittedly, it was a while ago, so let’s hold hands for our couples skate down memory lane:

GNR 151, Overbeaters Anonymous 56

The Guns ‘n’ Rollers, with very special guest skaters Smackya Sideways and Napalm Beth, beat the Overbeaters (party mix team from Washington) in a Friday night scrimmage at the hangar.  Since the Betties were busy stuffing themselves with carbs to prepare for our Saturday bout, I solicited some first-hand reports to find out what happened.  No one got back to me.  But here’s a picture!

My take: Sugar jammed, and GNR won.  You can make your own conclusions.  More pictures if you’re so inclined.

Break Neck Betties 140, Heartless Heathers 119

The Heathers came out strong with a string of lead jammer calls and kept the Betties off the scoreboard for the first eight minutes, but the Betties came back with team defense to hold the Heartless to 62-31 at halftime.

The Heathers are known for their recycling in the pack, but in this game they seemed to be recycling to the penalty box.  The Betties made use of that advantage and steadily put points on the board, but the Heathers made things interesting with a few high-scoring runs.

F-Bomb says:

The newly-drafted Heathers (Lt. Uhurta and Baccha Nailya) faced off against the Betties for the first time, the Cadavers were cheering loud and proud in the stands, we kept our cool under pressure, and all of the Heathers skated their ice-filled hearts out.

Frisky Sour says:

Yaaaaaay, the Betties are aweessssoooooome!

You might as well watch it online if you’re intrigued.

Now the season standings should stand as such:

1. HR (3 – 0)

2. BNB (2.5 – .5)

3. HH (1.5 – 1.5)

4. GNR ( 0- 3)

Rosebuds: Rosie’s Riveters 147 – Death Scar Derby Dolls 123?

Apparently, there was a Rosebuds bout on Sunday.  I learned this when I showed up at 4pm for Get Fit off-skate training.  Go teams!  The above score was written on the whiteboard afterward.  Any Buds want to weigh in?  Jesus Feist must have done a good job, because I kept hearing her name from the announcers as we were sweating and grunting through sprints and pushups in the parking lot.

Yes, roller derby is super glamorous.

***

There are no bouts next weekend, so I’m taking the week off.  See you suckers at the Bagdad Theater for the WOJ/BAD bout party

WOJ, rest assured: there will be chanting. CHANT-ING!  CHANT-ING!  CHANT-ING!
