March 18-20th weekend recap

In case you missed it, there were approximately 10 hours of roller derby played in the hangar at Oaks Park last weekend, not including practice.  What happened?

Break Neck Betties ‎181, Dockyard Femme Fiana 59

The Betties didn’t disappoint the sold-out crowd in a fundraiser bout that featured the re-debut of D.Konstructor.  Acid put up a big first jam to start, and the Betties never looked back.  We got to see some non-traditional Betties lineups, and Leet jammed by popular demand.

Damn right she got lead jammer and one point!

I hope you didn’t miss this one.  We had free beer at the afterparty.  Free beer!   You should hang out with us more often.  We’re fun.

Thank you to the Femme Fiana for making the trip from Tacoma.  They’re a classy bunch of ladies, despite what they might want you to believe.

Open Scrimmage

Did you hear about this?  Gals from Dockyard, Rainy City and Cherry City filled out our rosters in addition to a bunch of Fresh Meat and some RCR home and travel team skaters.

I got wacked in the face one jam into the men’s scrimmage part, so I bowed out and only got to hit Speed Bump once.  Don Juan jumped over the foam barricade and landed in the bleachers at one point.   I was scared for his life.

High Rollers 174, GnR 63

Though a similar score differential as the Betties’ Friday game, this one started out close.  As the midway point of the first half approached, GnR held a lead.  Over time, though, the High Rollers literally ran away with the game with scorching fast pack speeds.

Several brand-new skaters got prime time, as Untamed Shrew jammed for GnR and Illegally Blonde thrilled the crowd with her (often one-footed) moves for HRMF.

Also of note: Bella Massacre looked super cute in those pants, and an HR contingent including Layla Smackdown had vuvuzelas.

Rosebuds a billion, The World a billion and one

…Because when the Rosebuds play, The World wins.

I wasn’t there to witness the first games between the Rosebuds’ new teams, but the Undead Avengers, Rosie’s Riveters,  the Death Scar Avengers and Rainbow Bites thrilled a big crowd with a scramble at the hangar on Sunday.

The Rosebuds’ travel team will head up north to take on the Seattle Derby Brats this weekend.  Good luck, Buds!  Beat on the Brats!
