Some weeks ago we were approached by Dave of J&D’s Food who wanted our fans to experience first hand their number one product: Awesome.
No really, his pitch:
I’m one of the founders of J&D’s Foods, a company that like you, traffics in awesome. Our goal is to make everything taste like bacon with products such as Bacon Salt and Baconnaise.
We can’t agree more- The Rose City Rollers do specialize in awesome and roller derby has a close relationship with bacon (ever heard of Bay Area Derby’s Bacontini? didja know bacon helps with hangovers? have you checked the list of diners sponsoring the league and teams? derby and bacon- we go way back). So of course we said yes- not just swag for our fans, bacon swag for our fans!
The Baconnaise made its debut at the RCR Hangar during the S5B5 Guns n Rollers vs. Heartless Heathers bout and ever since my world of condiments has been turned upside down.
Today’s Fun with Sponsors features a Baconnaise recipe inspired by our own Mike Chexx and Wrecker Amy- Baconnaise Deviled Eggs.
The great thing about deviled eggs is all the junk you get to add to an otherwise healthy hard boiled egg to create a unique flavor. The wonderful thing about Baconnaise is that it does most of the work for you by pre-mixing two of the most important ingredients: mayonnaise and bacon! Even with hard boiled eggs and baconnaise as your sole ingredients you’re gonna wind up with a tasty bacon-and-eggs style snack- which is fantastic if you’re like me and these are the only groceries you own. Fortunately I was able to pilfer garlic salt, paprika, and horseradish from my roommates for some added zest- though careful not to add too much as we’re working to underscore the bacon flavor, not overpower.
You’ll be happy to know that, despite the slightly odd color, Baconnaise works just like traditional mayonnaise. And just like your mom’s mayo, Baconnaise is vegetarian! All the benefits of bacon taste minus the meaty mess. I figure Baconnaise saved me a trip to the store, an hour of bacon cooking & chopping, and a trip to the ER with grease burns.
The outcome was outstanding. Quick, easy bacon infused goodness in an instant- and it lives in the fridge for bacon taste on demand!
Dig bacon as much as these guys? I do! We’re even fans of ‘em on Facebook. J&D’s just started stocking local Portland area stores with Baconnaise. Their website claims you can pick it up at local Fred Meyers locations. But you can still pick up a free jar at our upcoming bouts (this Friday and Saturday)!
I had my fun before I realized the J&D’s site features recipes including a whole page on Baconnaise (even their own deviled eggs!).
Pick up a jar of Baconnaise at an RCR bout? Tried Baconnaise or Bacon Salt? Have a favorite use for these bacon condiments? Let’s hear it in the comments!
Fun with Sponsors hopes to be a semi-regular look at Rose City Rollers’ sponsors, donors, contributing efforts, and partner organizations. Interested in who else we’ll feature? Check out our Sponsors page to see the whole family of RCR supporters. Wanna get your name on the list and support this fantastic 501c3 Portland community organization? Plus it’s kosher AND vegetarian! As if you needed any more reason to eat it….
For those about to rock with Baconnaise, we salute you!
How can one NOT love the Baconnaise????
